Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18, 5:30-7 p.m. (Individual Classes) The Desert Garden Year: A month-by-month series for growing vegetables, herbs and flowers in the low desert. In this series, we’ll look ahead at what to plant, what to harvest and what needs attention in your vegetable, herb and flower garden. Each class will help you prepare for the month ahead with practical, timely guidance for our unique climate. Come with your questions and leave with a clear plan for what to do next in your garden. Sept. 16: October in the Low Desert October is one of the best planting months in the low desert. Learn how to transition out of summer, prepare your soil, and plan a productive cool-season garden. We’ll cover what to plant in October, including vegetables, herbs, flowers, garlic, strawberries, roses, bulbs, and wildflowers. We’ll also discuss watering adjustments, planting landscape plants, and which pests to watch for. Oct. 21: November in the Low Desert November brings cooler temperatures, planting, and the first signs of winter. Learn what vegetables, herbs, flowers, bulbs, fruiting plants, and landscape plants can be added this month. We’ll also cover adding companion plants, watering, preparing for frost, harvesting fall crops, managing pests, and turning fallen leaves and garden debris into compost. Nov. 18: December and January in the Low Desert November brings cooler temperatures, planting, and the first signs of winter.
